Completely.
While I struggled just to get through each day, Sam handled everything else without asking for recognition. He made phone calls I couldn’t emotionally manage. He dealt with paperwork, appointments, meals, and responsibilities while somehow still making sure I never felt abandoned inside the pain.
He sat beside me during sleepless nights without trying to force conversation.
When I cried, he didn’t rush me to stop.
When I felt numb, he didn’t pressure me to “move on.”
He simply remained there beside me.
Steady.
Present.
Reliable.
And slowly, for the first time in years, I began seeing him differently.
I noticed the small things I had ignored before.
The way he quietly placed a blanket around my shoulders when I fell asleep on the couch.
The way he remembered difficult dates without needing reminders.
The way he made coffee exactly how I liked it on mornings when getting out of bed felt impossible.
The way he stayed emotionally available without demanding anything in return.
It suddenly became painfully clear:
Sam had never lacked emotion.
I had simply failed to recognize the form it took.
His love had never been loud.
