Instructions

1. Cook the Noodles:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the noodles according to package directions until al dente. Drain, rinse briefly with cold water to stop cooking, and set aside.

2. Sear the Steak:
Pat the steak slices dry with a paper towel. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the steak in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes per side, until browned but not overcooked. Remove from the skillet and set aside on a plate.

3. Cook the Shrimp:
In the same skillet, add the remaining 1 tablespoon of oil. Add the shrimp in a single layer and cook for 1-2 minutes per side, until they turn pink and opaque. Remove from the skillet and place them with the steak.

4. Sauté the Aromatics:
Reduce the heat to medium. Add the minced garlic and sliced bell peppers to the skillet. Sauté for 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until fragrant and the peppers are tender-crisp.

5. Combine and Sauce:
Push the vegetables to the sides of the skillet. Add the butter to the center and let it melt. Add the drained noodles, seared steak, and cooked shrimp back to the skillet.

6. Create the Sauce:
Pour the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and sesame oil (if using) over everything. Season with black pepper and red pepper flakes. Toss everything together gently but thoroughly until evenly coated and heated through, about 2-3 minutes.

7. Serve:
Remove from heat. Garnish with chopped green onions and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Chef’s Notes:

  • Slicing the Steak: For the most tender results, ensure your steak is sliced against the grain (across the muscle fibers).

  • Don’t Overcook: The key to tender steak and shrimp is to cook them quickly and remove them from the pan. They will warm through again when combined with the sauce.

  • Customize Your Veggies: Feel free to add other vegetables like broccoli florets, snap peas, or sliced mushrooms.
