Preparation
In a saucepan, combine 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the sugar is dissolved, about 8–10 minutes, to create a simple syrup.
In a large pitcher, add the remaining 4 cups water, the warm simple syrup, citric acid, orange sanding sugar, and orange extract. Stir well to combine.
Chill in the refrigerator until very cold, about 2–3 hours.
Serve over ice and enjoy a taste of 1893!
