Instructions
Fill a pan with enough water to submerge your grate.
Place the pan on the stove and bring the water to a boil.
Add 2 dishwasher tablets to the boiling water.
Insert the cast iron (or metal) grate into the pan.
Let it boil for 30 minutes.
Carefully remove the grate and scrub with a sponge or brush.
Use a knife to gently scrape off any remaining hard carbon buildup.
Flip the grate, repeat the boiling and cleaning process for the other side.
Why This Method Works
The heat combined with the active cleaning agents in dishwasher tablets softens grease and breaks down carbon deposits. It’s effective not only for cast iron but also for other types of metal grates.
Pro Tip:
Make this part of your regular seasonal maintenance to keep your grill or stove looking and performing its best—especially before summer cookouts!
