Your refrigerator has a small button or setting that can help you save electricity, especially during the winter. Many people don’t realize this simple adjustment can significantly reduce your electricity bill.
Why Adjust Refrigerator Temperature in Winter?
Refrigerators are essential appliances operating 24/7 to keep food fresh.
However, they are also one of the most energy-consuming devices in the home.
According to the Vietnam Electricity Corporation (EVN), a large refrigerator can consume between 50 – 75 kWh of electricity per month.
How to Adjust the Refrigerator Temperature
✅ Identify the Temperature Control
Modern refrigerators have a control knob or digital display with settings usually ranging from 1–5 or 1–6.
✅ Adjust for Winter
In colder months, you can lower the cooling level to save electricity:
Set the temperature to levels 2–3, or even 1.
At level 1, the temperature will typically be around 2–5 °C, which is enough for safe food storage and reduces energy use.
✅ Adjust Based on Food Quantity
