Ingredients

For the Donuts:

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ½ tsp baking soda

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • ¼ tsp nutmeg

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • 1 large egg

  • ½ cup brown sugar

  • ⅓ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup applesauce (unsweetened)

  • ¼ cup vegetable oil

  • ½ cup milk

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup finely chopped apple (peeled, tart variety like Granny Smith)

For the Crumb Topping:

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • ¼ cup brown sugar

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

Optional Glaze:

  • ½ cup powdered sugar

  • 2–3 tsp milk


Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven

    • Heat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan.

  2. Make the Donut Batter

    • In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

    • In another bowl, whisk egg, brown sugar, granulated sugar, applesauce, oil, milk, and vanilla until smooth.

    • Stir wet and dry ingredients together until just combined. Fold in chopped apples.

  3. Make the Crumb Topping

    • Mix flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Stir in melted butter until crumbly.

  4. Assemble & Bake
