🔪 Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Prep the Apples
-
Cut apples in half, core them, and slice very thinly (use a mandoline or a sharp knife).
-
Place slices in a bowl with water and lemon juice.
-
Microwave for 2–3 minutes to soften (so they roll easily) or simmer gently on the stove for a few minutes.
-
Drain and pat dry.
2. Prepare the Puff Pastry
-
Roll out the puff pastry slightly on a floured surface.
-
Cut into 6 equal strips lengthwise (about 2 inches wide).
3. Assemble the Roses
-
Mix sugar and cinnamon together in a small bowl.
-
In another small bowl, mix jam with a splash of water and microwave for about 20 seconds until smooth.
-
Spread a thin layer of jam over each puff pastry strip.
-
Lay apple slices along the top half of each strip, overlapping slightly with the rounded edges sticking out beyond the dough (this creates the “petal” look).
-
Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.
-
Fold the bottom half of the dough up over the apple slices.
-
Carefully roll each strip into a rose shape and place into a greased muffin tin.
4. Bake
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
-
Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the pastry is golden and cooked through. Cover with foil halfway through if the apples start to brown too much.
5. Cool & Serve
-
Let cool slightly, then remove gently from the tin.
-
Dust with powdered sugar for a pretty finish.
🌟 Tips
-
Use red-skinned apples for the most beautiful “rose petal” effect.
-
These are best the same day but can be stored in the fridge and reheated gently.
-
Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra flair.
