Instructions:

  1. Preheat & Prep:

    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).

    • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.

  2. Slice the Apples:

    • Core and thinly slice apples (about 1/8–1/4 inch thick). Leave the skin on for color, or peel if you prefer soft texture.

  3. Make Caramel Base:

    • On the baking sheet, space out 4–6 small pats of butter (about 1/2 tbsp each).

    • Sprinkle about 1/2 tbsp of brown sugar on top of each butter pat.

    • Lay a few apple slices over each sugar/butter pile in a neat fan or spiral.

    • Sprinkle with cinnamon and a tiny pinch of salt.

  4. Top with Puff Pastry:

    • Cut the puff pastry into squares (slightly larger than your apple piles).

    • Place each square over the apples, tucking the edges in slightly if you want them to puff around the apples.

  5. Bake:

    • Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.

  6. Flip & Reveal:

    • Let cool 1–2 minutes, then carefully flip each tart upside-down with a spatula so the apple side is on top. (Caramel-y magic happens here!)

  7. Serve:

    • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a dollop of whipped cream, or a drizzle of maple or caramel sauce. Or just eat ’em straight—no one will judge.

🍏 Variations:

  • Add a thin slice of brie under the puff pastry for a sweet-savory combo.

  • Use pears, peaches, or plums instead of apples.

  • Sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts over the apples before baking.
