Instructions:
Step 1: Make the Dough
Activate the Yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm milk and sugar, then sprinkle yeast over the top. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir to combine.
Add Dry Ingredients: Gradually add flour and salt to the wet ingredients. Stir with a spoon until the dough begins to come together.
Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5–7 minutes, until it’s smooth and elastic. Add more flour if the dough is too sticky.
Let It Rise: Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm spot for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 2: Shape the Donuts
Roll Out the Dough: Punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2 inch thickness.
Cut the Donuts: Use a round cutter (about 3 inches in diameter) to cut out your donuts. Use a smaller cutter (or a bottle cap) to cut out the center for the donut hole.
Let the Donuts Rest: Place the shaped donuts on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Cover and let them rise for 30 minutes.
Step 3: Fry the Donuts
Heat the Oil: Heat about 2 inches of vegetable oil in a large pot or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
Fry the Donuts: Gently drop the donuts into the hot oil, a few at a time. Fry each side for about 2 minutes or until golden brown.
Drain & Cool: Use tongs to remove the donuts and place them on paper towels to drain. Let them cool for a few minutes.
Step 4: Make the Cream Filling
Whip the Cream: In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form. You want it to be thick and fluffy.
Step 5: Fill the Donuts
Stuff the Donuts: Once the donuts are cool, use a piping bag or a plastic sandwich bag (with the tip cut off) to fill each donut with the whipped cream.
Serve & Enjoy: Dust the filled donuts with powdered sugar, and they’re ready to enjoy!
💡 Tips:
Flavor variations: Add a little lemon zest or a splash of coffee extract to the cream for a twist.
Donut fillings: You can also fill them with custard, chocolate ganache, or fruit jam for different versions.
No piping bag? Simply cut a small slit in the side of the donut and use a spoon to carefully stuff the filling inside.
