Instructions:
-
Mix Dry Ingredients:
-
In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
-
-
Mix Wet Ingredients:
-
In a separate bowl, whisk egg, milk, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.
-
-
Make the Dough:
-
Add wet ingredients to dry and stir until a soft dough forms. It’ll be a little sticky—don’t overmix.
-
-
Roll & Cut:
-
Lightly flour your surface. Roll dough out to about 1/2 inch thick.
-
Use a donut cutter or two round cutters (about 3″ and 1″) to cut out donuts and holes.
-
-
Heat Oil:
-
Heat 2–3 inches of oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
-
Test with a donut hole: it should sizzle and float within seconds.
-
-
Fry Time:
-
Carefully fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side, or until golden brown.
-
Flip with tongs or a slotted spoon.
-
-
Drain & Cool:
-
Place donuts on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.
-
-
Coat & Serve:
-
While warm, toss in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar, or dip in glaze once slightly cooled.
-
🍩 Quick Glaze Ideas:
Simple Vanilla Glaze:
-
1 cup powdered sugar
-
2–3 tbsp milk
-
1/2 tsp vanilla
Chocolate Glaze:
-
1/2 cup chocolate chips
-
1 tbsp butter
-
1–2 tbsp milk (melt and whisk until smooth)
💡 Pro Tips:
-
Don’t overcrowd the oil—fry in small batches.
-
If the dough is too sticky, add a sprinkle of flour. Too dry? A splash of milk.
-
These are best fresh but can be reheated in the microwave for 10–15 seconds.
