Instructions:

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients:

    • In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.

  2. Mix Wet Ingredients:

    • In a separate bowl, whisk egg, milk, vanilla, and melted butter until smooth.

  3. Make the Dough:

    • Add wet ingredients to dry and stir until a soft dough forms. It’ll be a little sticky—don’t overmix.

  4. Roll & Cut:

    • Lightly flour your surface. Roll dough out to about 1/2 inch thick.

    • Use a donut cutter or two round cutters (about 3″ and 1″) to cut out donuts and holes.

  5. Heat Oil:

    • Heat 2–3 inches of oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).

    • Test with a donut hole: it should sizzle and float within seconds.

  6. Fry Time:

    • Carefully fry donuts 1–2 minutes per side, or until golden brown.

    • Flip with tongs or a slotted spoon.

  7. Drain & Cool:

    • Place donuts on a wire rack or paper towels to drain excess oil.

  8. Coat & Serve:

    • While warm, toss in cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar, or dip in glaze once slightly cooled.

🍩 Quick Glaze Ideas:

Simple Vanilla Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar

  • 2–3 tbsp milk

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

Chocolate Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

  • 1 tbsp butter

  • 1–2 tbsp milk (melt and whisk until smooth)

💡 Pro Tips:

  • Don’t overcrowd the oil—fry in small batches.

  • If the dough is too sticky, add a sprinkle of flour. Too dry? A splash of milk.

  • These are best fresh but can be reheated in the microwave for 10–15 seconds.
