1. Activate the Yeast
In a bowl, mix the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5ā10 minutes until foamy.
2. Make the Dough
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add in the yeast mixture and melted butter (plus the egg, if using).
Mix and knead until a soft, slightly sticky dough formsāabout 5ā7 minutes by hand or with a dough hook.
3. Let It Rise
Cover and let rise in a warm place for 45ā60 minutes, or until doubled in size.
4. Shape the Rolls
Divide the dough into 8ā10 equal balls. Roll them smooth and place them on a parchment-lined tray or straight into your air fryer basket (leaving a little space between each).
5. Second Rise (Optional)
Let them rest for 10ā15 minutes to puff up slightly againāthis helps them stay soft and rise nicely in the fryer.
6. Air Fry
Preheat air fryer to 320°F (160°C).
Air fry the rolls for 8ā10 minutes, checking around minute 7. They should be golden on top and cooked through.
7. Finish with Butter
Brush warm rolls with melted butter for that irresistible soft, glossy finish.
