Slow Cooker Beef Tips

Instructions

1. Season the Beef

In a large bowl, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Add beef tips and toss until well coated.

2. Sear the Meat

Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the beef tips in batches on all sides, then transfer them to the slow cooker.

3. Build the Sauce

In the same skillet, add chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until fragrant and translucent, about 2–3 minutes.
Stir in beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, tomato paste, thyme, and the bay leaf. Scrape up any browned bits from the pan, then pour the mixture over the beef in the slow cooker.

4. Slow Cook

Cover and cook on LOW for 6–8 hours, or until the beef is tender and easily pulls apart.

5. Thicken the Sauce

During the last 30 minutes, remove the bay leaf. Mix cold water and cornstarch in a small bowl until smooth, then stir into the slow cooker. Continue cooking until the sauce thickens.

6. Serve

Serve the beef tips hot, spooning the sauce over them. Garnish with fresh parsley and enjoy over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.

Chef’s Tip: Browning the beef before slow cooking locks in flavor and helps create a richer sauce.
