🌿 Bonus: their waste acts as a natural fertilizer—great for the garden!

At the end of the season, we bring any survivors inside for the winter. If they make it through, they head right back out with the spring thaw.

This has become one of my favorite little homestead hacks. It’s simple, effective, totally natural—and just plain fun to watch them swim around while watering the garden. Win-win!
