Instructions:

1. Prepare the caramel:

  1. In a small saucepan, melt the sugar over medium heat until it turns a light golden color.
  2. Pour the caramel immediately into a tube or round cake tin (preferably 20-22 cm in diameter). Tilt the tin to coat the bottom evenly. Let cool.

2. Prepare the flan:

  1. Blend the condensed milk, evaporated milk, eggs, and vanilla until you obtain a homogeneous mixture.
  2. Pour the flan mixture over the cooled caramel in the mold.

3. Prepare the chocolate cake:

  1. Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions or your homemade recipe.
  2. Carefully pour the cake batter over the flan layer. Although the mixtures may appear to combine, they will separate during baking.

4. Bake in a water bath:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180 °C (350 °F).
  2. Place the mold in a large baking tray and fill the tray with hot water until it reaches half the height of the mold.
  3. Bake for 1 hour or until a toothpick inserted into the chocolate cake comes out clean.

5. Cool and unmold:

  1. Remove the chocoflan from the oven and let it cool to room temperature.
  2. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to set.
  3. To unmold, run a knife around the edges of the mold, place a large plate on top and quickly turn the mold over.

 Presentation:

Decorate the chocoflan with chopped nuts, chocolate chips, whipped cream, or fresh fruit if desired. Slice and serve chilled.
