Instructions:
1. Prepare the dough:
In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in the warm water and sprinkle the yeast on top. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes, or until it becomes foamy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and 2 tablespoons of olive oil, then stir until a dough begins to form.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour as needed.
2. Let the dough rise:
Lightly oil a clean bowl, place the dough inside, and cover it with a kitchen towel. Let it rise for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
3. Shape the breadsticks:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it.
Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a large rectangle, about ½ inch thick.
Cut the dough into strips, about 1 inch wide and 6-8 inches long, depending on how large you want your breadsticks.
4. Bake the breadsticks:
Place the breadsticks onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them out slightly.
Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
5. Make the garlic butter topping:
While the breadsticks are baking, melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Add the garlic powder and stir well.
Once the breadsticks are done, immediately brush them with the garlic butter mixture. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and fresh parsley for a nice finish.
6. Serve and enjoy:
Serve the garlic breadsticks warm with marinara sauce or your favorite dipping sauce.

Cheesy Garlic Bread Sticks: Add shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the breadsticks during the last 2-3 minutes of baking for a cheesy twist!
