Spiral Sausage Sticks Recipe

Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven:
Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

2. Prepare the Sausages:
Take the sausages and slice them in half lengthwise, being careful not to cut all the way through. You want them to open up into a flat shape, like a butterfly.

If your sausages are encased in a casing, you can remove the casing if desired (especially if you’re using sausage meat, this is optional).

3. Roll Out the Puff Pastry:
Unroll the sheet of puff pastry on a clean, flat surface. If using store-bought puff pastry, you may need to roll it out slightly with a rolling pin to smooth out the creases and ensure it’s the right thickness for wrapping.

Cut the pastry into strips about 1 inch wide.

4. Assemble the Spiral Sausage Sticks:
Take a strip of puff pastry and wrap it around each sausage half in a spiral pattern, starting from one end and working your way to the other. Be sure to overlap the pastry slightly as you wrap to ensure the pastry sticks to the sausage.

Continue wrapping until the sausage is fully covered. If you like, you can brush the edges of the puff pastry with a little water or egg wash to help seal the edges.

5. Apply Egg Wash and Season:
Once your sausages are wrapped in pastry, place them on the prepared baking sheet. Brush the top of the pastry with the beaten egg for a golden, shiny finish.

Sprinkle a pinch of garlic powder, paprika, and dried herbs on top of the pastry for extra flavor, if desired. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

6. Bake:
Bake the spiral sausage sticks in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden brown and crispy, and the sausages are cooked through. Keep an eye on them towards the end of baking to avoid over-browning.

7. Serve:
Remove from the oven and let the spiral sausage sticks cool slightly before serving. You can garnish them with freshly chopped parsley or chives for a pop of color.

Serve with your favorite dipping sauces, such as ketchup, mustard, or even a tangy barbecue sauce.

Tips for Success:
Sausage Variety: Choose sausages that are flavorful on their own, or you can cook the sausages beforehand and slice them if you prefer. The filling sausage flavor will shine through the pastry.

Puff Pastry: If using frozen puff pastry, be sure to let it thaw properly before working with it, so it rolls out easily.

Flavor Options: Get creative with the filling by adding grated cheese, sautéed onions, or a spicy mustard glaze on the inside of the puff pastry before wrapping the sausage for added flavor.

Dipping Sauce: Feel free to experiment with other dipping sauces like honey mustard, ranch, or even a spicy sriracha mayo for an extra kick.
