Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and active dry yeast. Stir to dissolve the sugar, then let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
Add the milk, melted butter, and egg to the dry ingredients.
Pour in the yeast mixture once it’s ready, and mix until the dough begins to come together.
Knead the dough for about 5-7 minutes on a floured surface until it’s smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook to knead the dough.
If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour, a tablespoon at a time, until it’s soft but not sticky.
2. First Rise:
Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly greased bowl. Cover the bowl with a damp towel or plastic wrap.
Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
3. Shape the Rolls:
After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air.
Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and roll each piece into a ball.
Place the dough balls into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish or a round cake pan, ensuring they are close together.
4. Second Rise:
Cover the rolls with a damp towel or plastic wrap and let them rise for another 30-45 minutes, until they’ve doubled in size.
5. Bake:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Once the rolls have risen, bake them in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.
6. Prepare the Garlic Butter:
While the rolls are baking, prepare the garlic butter by melting the butter in a small saucepan or microwave.
Add the minced garlic (or garlic powder), salt, and chopped parsley (if using). Stir to combine.
7. Finish the Rolls:
Once the rolls are out of the oven, immediately brush them with the garlic butter mixture while they’re still warm.
Serve the rolls warm for the best texture and flavor.
Tips:
Make Ahead: You can make the dough ahead of time. After the first rise, cover the dough and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. Let it come to room temperature before shaping the rolls and continuing with the recipe.
Cheesy Option: For a cheesy garlic roll, sprinkle shredded mozzarella or Parmesan cheese over the rolls before baking.
Storage: Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes to maintain their softness.
These Garlic Dinner Rolls will become an instant favorite! Soft, buttery, and bursting with garlic flavor, they pair perfectly with any meal—whether it’s for a holiday dinner or a casual weeknight meal. Enjoy!
