Rich & Creamy Cottage Pie Recipe

Ingredients:

For the filling:

  • 1 lb ground beef (or lamb, if you prefer)

  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 large carrot, peeled and diced

  • 1 cup frozen peas

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 cup beef broth (or vegetable broth for a lighter flavor)

  • 1/2 cup red wine (optional but adds depth)

  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or butter for sautéing

For the mashed potatoes:

  • 2 lbs potatoes (Yukon Golds are great for a creamy texture)

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream (or milk if you prefer a lighter version)

  • 4 tablespoons butter

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • A pinch of grated nutmeg (optional, but it adds a lovely depth)
