The Christmas cactus—also known as the Easter cactus (Schlumbergera bridgessii)—is a beautiful, winter-flowering indoor plant that adds a vibrant touch to almost any indoor setting.
Not only is it easy to care for and propagate, but with just a few simple tricks, it can also be encouraged to bloom multiple times a year.
How to Propagate the Christmas Cactus
Propagation is simple and effective:
Take a small Y-shaped segment from the healthy tip of a stem.
Insert about a quarter of its length into a pot filled with slightly sandy soil.
Keep the soil evenly moist and place the pot in a bright but indirect light area.
To promote rooting:
Cut shoots from the tip down to the second joint of each segment.
After a few weeks, new growth should appear.
Once rooted, transplant the cutting into a mix of soil, compost, and sand.
