With its beautiful golden crust and tender filling, this recipe looks elegant but can be prepared at home with simple ingredients.

Ingredients

For the pastry crust:

  • 500 g all-purpose flour
  • 250 g cold butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 80–100 ml cold water

For the meat filling:

  • 700 g ground pork or mixed ground meat
  • 200 g chicken liver or finely chopped meat (optional)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon paprika

For the top:

  • 1 egg yolk mixed with 1 tablespoon milk (for brushing)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the pastry dough

In a large bowl, mix flour and salt.

Add the cold butter and rub it into the flour until the mixture looks like coarse crumbs.

Add the egg and cold water gradually until a smooth dough forms.

Wrap the dough and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

Step 2: Prepare the meat filling

In a large bowl, combine the ground meat with onion, garlic, egg, breadcrumbs, parsley, thyme, black pepper, salt, nutmeg, and paprika.

Mix well until all ingredients are evenly combined.

Allow the filling to rest in the refrigerator for 20–30 minutes so the flavors develop.

Step 3: Assemble the meat pie

Roll out most of the pastry dough and line a deep pie mold, leaving some dough around the edges.

Fill the pastry with the seasoned meat mixture and press gently to remove air pockets.

Cover with the remaining pastry dough and seal the edges.

Make a small hole in the center to allow steam to escape.

Brush the top with egg yolk and milk for a beautiful golden color.

Step 4: Bake

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Bake for about 60–75 minutes until the crust becomes golden brown and the filling is fully cooked.

Let the pie rest for 15–20 minutes before slicing.
