Ingredients :
For the Steaks:
• 1 pound ground beef
• ⅓ cup bread crumbs
• 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
• ½ teaspoon garlic powder
• ½ teaspoon salt
• ½ teaspoon black pepper
• 1 tablespoon olive oil
For the Gravy:
• 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
• 2 tablespoons butter
• 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
• 2 cups beef broth
• ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
• Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions :
1. Make the steak patties
◦ In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
◦ Mix until just combined (don’t overwork the meat).
◦ Shape into 4 equal-sized patties.
2. Cook the patties
◦ Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
◦ Add the patties and cook for 4–5 minutes per side, until browned and cooked through.
◦ Remove and set aside on a plate.
3. Make the gravy
◦ In the same skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter.
◦ Add the sliced onion and cook for 5–6 minutes, until softened and golden.
◦ Stir in 2 tablespoons flour and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, to form a roux.
◦ Slowly whisk in 2 cups beef broth and ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce.
◦ Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes, until thickened.
4. Combine steaks & gravy
◦ Return the cooked patties to the skillet, nestling them into the onion gravy.
◦ Spoon some gravy over the top and simmer for another 3–4 minutes to let flavors meld.
5. Serve
◦ Plate the hamburger steaks topped with plenty of gravy.
◦ Perfect with mashed potatoes, rice, or buttered egg noodles.
