Because it was true.
We thought we were hiding things.
But our children…

They had been watching.
Watching our silence.
Watching our distance. Watching our pain.

And building their own understanding of love from it.
Daniel spoke again.
“I don’t want to grow up thinking this is what marriage is.”

Divine added through tears,
“I just want you both to be happy…”
Favour’s voice softened…
“We just need peace.”

Tears rolled down my face freely now.
Because in that moment…
The truth hit me harder than ever before.

We didn’t stay for the children.
We hid behind them.
Used them as an excuse…
To avoid making hard decisions.

But they were the ones paying the price.
Slowly…
I turned to look at him.
And for the first time in years…

We truly saw each other.
Not as enemies. Not as strangers.
But as two people…
Who had failed to protect the very hearts we were trying to “save.”

He wiped his face quietly.
I couldn’t even remember the last time I saw him cry.
