She leaned in, just a little. Close enough that I could see the tiny scar above her left eyebrow. Close enough that I could count her lashes if I wanted to — and I really, really didn’t want to want to.
Then she whispered something that almost made my knees give way.

My chest tightened.
My brain screamed: RUN.
But my body — that traitor — remained frozen.
I opened my mouth to say something. Anything. “Get out” or “God forbid” or even “Please repeat the question” — anything.
But before a single word could escape…
HOOOOONK.
The sound of a car horn outside the gate cut through the silence like a machete.
A horn I would recognize anywhere.
My wife’s car.
And Inemesit was still standing barely inches away from me.
Her eyes locked on mine.
That dangerous smile still resting on her lips.
Outside, the gate began to open.
The blood in my vein was now running riot as I tried to figure out how to come out of this situation – alive!
Inemesit smiled and said something that still hung in my head.
“Oga, no worry. I go come back tomorrow make we finish am.”
I stood there dumbfounded as I watched her exit the dragging those two heavy balloons behind her as she disappeared.
I looked myself in the mirror.
