Instructions
1. Mix the Wet Ingredients
In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar and egg until well combined.
Add the yogurt, milk, and lemon zest, mixing until smooth.
2. Add the Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the flour and baking powder to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
The batter should be thick but pourable—do not overmix.
3. Heat the Oil
Pour vegetable oil into a large frying pan and heat over medium-low.
Test the oil by dropping in a small piece of dough—if it sizzles and floats, the oil is ready.
4. Form the Donuts
Method 1 – Spoonful:
Dip two spoons in the hot oil, scoop up a rounded spoonful of batter, and gently slide into the oil.
Method 2 – Piping Bag:
Transfer batter to a piping bag fitted with a star tip and pipe directly into the oil.
5. Fry the Donuts
Fry for 2–3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
6. Drain and Garnish
Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
While still warm, roll in granulated sugar.
7. Serve
Enjoy warm with coffee or tea.
