How to Make Your Own Lemon Powder
This recipe is as easy as boiling water—no special cooking skills or fancy tools required.
1. Choose the Right Lemons
Opt for organic or untreated lemons. Their peels are free of chemicals and packed with natural aroma.
2. Prepare the Zest
Wash lemons in cold water and dry them.
Use a vegetable peeler or small knife to remove the yellow part of the skin.
Avoid the bitter white part underneath (the pith).
3. Dry the Peels
Choose one of the following methods:
Sun Drying:
Spread the zest on a clean cloth in a sunny spot for 2–3 days. Bring them indoors at night to prevent moisture.
Oven Drying:
Place the zest on a baking sheet and dry it at low temperature (around 100°F or 40°C) for 1–2 hours until crisp.
Dehydrator:
Use a food dehydrator if you have one. It’s fast and efficient.
Once completely dried, grind the peels into a fine powder using a spice grinder, food processor, or mortar and pestle. Store in an airtight jar.
