Managing a household is not as easy as it may seem at first glance. It requires not only time and effort, but also practical knowledge and proven life hacks that help keep clothes fresh, kitchens and bathrooms clean, and stubborn stains under control. These simple yet effective household tips will be useful for both beginners and experienced homemakers.

Tip 1: Restore Cutlery Shine with Lemon

Even high-quality cutlery can lose its shine over time, and some pieces may even develop rust. If you’re not planning to replace your cutlery soon, try refreshing it naturally.

Cut a lemon in half and rub it thoroughly over dull forks or spoons. Leave the juice on the surface for a few minutes, then rinse with warm water and polish with a soft cloth. Rust stains will disappear, and the cutlery will shine again.

For lightly soiled cutlery, potato broth works well. Instead of pouring out the water used to boil potatoes, soak the utensils in it for about 30 minutes. Then rinse with warm water and dry thoroughly.

Tip 2: Remove Odors from Plastic Containers with Mustard or Coffee

Plastic containers easily absorb food odors, which is why they are often discarded too soon. Fortunately, unpleasant smells can be removed with simple absorbents.

Pour a few tablespoons of mustard powder into the container, close the lid, and shake well. Then wash with dish soap and rinse with warm water.

Ground coffee works just as effectively. Add a few spoonfuls to the container, close the lid tightly, and leave it for 24 hours. Alternatively, coat the container with coffee grounds and place it in the freezer overnight. Both methods help eliminate lingering odors.

Tip 3: Clean Glass Lids with Hydrogen Peroxide

Dirty glass lids, especially under the rim, can be difficult to clean. Hydrogen peroxide is a simple and effective solution.

Pour hydrogen peroxide onto the lid and leave it for 5–10 minutes while it breaks down grease and grime. Rinse with warm water.

For tougher dirt, mix 1 tablespoon of hydrogen peroxide with 2 tablespoons of baking soda to form a thick paste. Pour boiling water over the lid to soften the dirt, apply the paste, leave it for 15 minutes, scrub gently, and rinse with hot water.

Tip 4: Use Aluminum Foil Instead of a Metal Sponge

Aluminum foil isn’t just for cooking—it can also be used for cleaning. Crumple a sheet of foil into a ball and use it to scrub pots and pans.

Foil removes grease, soot, and stuck-on food just as effectively as a metal sponge. However, avoid using it on non-stick or Teflon-coated cookware, as it may damage the surface.
