Ingredients:
For the Dough:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar (for sweet fritters) or 1/2 tsp ground black pepper (for savory fritters)
2 1/4 tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
1 tbsp olive oil (or melted butter)
1 egg (for brushing on top, optional)
For the Filling (choose one option):
Sweet Option:
1/4 cup sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tbsp melted butter or coconut oil
A handful of raisins or dried fruit (optional)
Savory Option:
1/4 cup grated cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or Parmesan)
1/2 tsp dried herbs (such as oregano or thyme)
A pinch of garlic powder
1/4 cup sautéed onions or spinach (optional)
