Air fryer roasted garlic is soft, buttery, and caramelised with a deep, sweet flavour. It’s a quicker and cleaner way to roast garlic compared to the oven—perfect for spreading on bread, stirring into sauces, or adding a rich kick to your favourite meals.

Ingredients

  • 2 whole garlic bulbs
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • Pinch of salt
  • Pinch of black pepper (optional)
  • Foil or parchment paper (for wrapping)

How To Make Air Fryer Roasted Garlic

  1. Prep the Garlic: Slice about ¼ inch off the top of each garlic bulb to expose the cloves.
  2. Season: Drizzle olive oil over the exposed cloves, then sprinkle with salt (and pepper if using).
  3. Wrap: Wrap each bulb tightly in foil or parchment paper to prevent burning.
  4. Air Fry: Preheat air fryer to 190°C (375°F). Place wrapped bulbs in the basket and cook for 20–25 minutes, until cloves are golden and soft.
  5. Cool & Serve: Let cool for a few minutes, then squeeze the roasted garlic out of the skins and use immediately or store for later.

You Must Know

  • Smaller bulbs may cook faster—check at the 20-minute mark.
  • Wrapping is essential to keep garlic from drying out or burning.
  • Roasted garlic can be stored in the fridge for up to 1 week in an airtight container.

Topping Variations

  • Herb Finish: Sprinkle fresh parsley, rosemary, or thyme over warm garlic.
  • Cheesy Blend: Mix roasted garlic with cream cheese or butter for a spread.
  • Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of chilli flakes or smoked paprika before roasting.
  • Honey Garlic: Drizzle with honey after cooking for a sweet-savory combo.

Make It A Meal

  • Spread roasted garlic on toasted bread or naan for an easy appetiser.
  • Mix into mashed potatoes for a creamy, flavourful side.
  • Stir into pasta sauces, soups, or stews for depth.
  • Use as a pizza topping or blend into hummus and dips.

Pro Tips

  • Use fresh, firm garlic bulbs for the best flavour.
  • If you prefer extra caramelisation, unwrap the bulbs for the last 3–4 minutes of cooking.
  • Freeze leftover roasted garlic by squeezing cloves into ice cube trays and covering with olive oil.
  • Don’t skip the olive oil—it helps the garlic roast evenly and enhances flavour.

Recipe FAQs

Q: Can I roast just garlic cloves instead of whole bulbs?
Yes—peel cloves, toss with oil, and air fry in a small foil packet for 12–15 minutes.

Q: How do I store roasted garlic?
Store in the fridge in an airtight container, covered with olive oil, for up to 1 week. For longer storage, freeze.

Q: Can I roast multiple bulbs at once?
Absolutely—just ensure they’re wrapped individually so they cook evenly.

Q: Do I need foil, or can I use parchment paper?
Both work, but foil holds in heat and moisture more effectively. Use parchment if you want a lighter caramelisation.

Q: What’s the difference between oven and air fryer roasted garlic?
The air fryer is quicker (20–25 minutes vs 40–45 in the oven) and gives a slightly more concentrated caramelised flavour

Air Fryer Roasted Garlic

Here’s how to make roasted garlic in an air fryer. It’s just as delicious as the original recipe, but it takes half the time!

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 2 1x
  • Category: condiment
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

Scale

  • 2 heads of garlic
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Cut off the top of the head of garlic, with the cloves still connected, but just enough to expose them a bit. You want all the cloves slightly exposed. Place in some foil and drizzle 1 teaspoon of olive oil over the top of each head. Wrap the foil around the garlic and air fry at 380°F/193°C for 25 mins. Let it cool in the air fryer (with the door closed) for about 5/-10 minutes before squeezing – else it’ll probably burn your fingers!
  2. Remove softened cloves from the skin if using in a recipe with a knife or a tiny spoon or squeeze the cloves out. If not using immediately, refrigerate for up to 4 days (or freeze). Enjoy!

Notes

Roasted garlic will keep in the fridge for up to 4 days in an airtight container. To freeze roasted garlic, simply place the cloves in a freezer-safe bag or container and store in the freezer for up to six months.
