Some regions were more affected by this phenomenon than others. These included Île-de-France, Hauts-de-France, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, and Occitanie. Since then, however, no further figures appear to have been released.
In Haute-Garonne, a new case involving squatters has generated considerable discussion. A resident of the department faced the illegal occupation of a plot of land located near Toulouse, in Portet-sur-Garonne. The perpetrators of these squats were members of the traveling community. However, the landowner did not have the patience to wait for the state to take action through eviction proceedings.
The landowner’s radical decision: Tired of seeing his land regularly occupied by these travelers, this landowner decided to put an end to it once and for all. He first gave them an ultimatum. “I’ve had enough. My land has been occupied several times now. That’s enough. I gave them 48 hours to leave. They didn’t listen to me, too bad for them,” he explained to La Dépêche du Midi.
